What are the classifications of blind rivets? What is the use of?

Nov 05, 2022

Blind rivets are a type of rivet used for single-sided riveting but must be riveted with special tools and riveters. When riveting, it is necessary to use a special rivet gun to pull the rivet core to expand the rivet body and play the role of riveting. Widely used in construction, automobiles, ships, aircraft, machinery, electrical appliances, furniture, and other products. Below, the classification, use, and precautions of blind rivets will be introduced.

Classification of blind rivets

1. All-aluminum self-pulling rivet: The rivet body of this rivet is also made of high-quality aluminum wire, which is beautiful and durable, and will never rust after riveting. Compared with ordinary self-pulling rivets, rivets have lower riveting strength and are suitable for connectors of soft materials.

2. Open stainless steel rivet: This rivet is the best choice for high tensile strength and corrosion resistance.

3. Half-round head rivet: mainly used in riveting occasions with large lateral loads, and is the most widely used.

4. Flat cone rivets: Due to the fat head and corrosion resistance, they are often used in riveting occasions with strong corrosion such as ship hulls and boiler water tanks.

5. Countersunk head, half countersunk head, 1200 countersunk head, half countersunk head rivets: mainly used for riveting occasions with smooth surface and small load.

6. Flat head rivet: used for riveting under general load.

Use of blind rivets

1. The fan rivets are specially designed for manual installation and can be pulled in through the holes of the panel or case. It is made of elastic elastomer material with good toughness, with clever design and elastic function. It is not easy to slide out after pulling in with the corresponding aperture. Fan rivets are mainly used to fix fans, heat sinks and chips of electronic computer chassis, which can prevent vibration and noise.

2. The rivet is a new type of riveting fastener, which is very convenient for riveting. Blind rivets can show their unique advantages in relatively small spaces or in environments where rivets are not available or cannot be used. By hitting the mandrel on one side with a hammer or other object, two or more connecting pieces can be riveted successfully. Core rivets can be divided into flat round head driven rivets and countersunk head rivets according to the shape of the brim.

3. The types of rivets can be roughly divided into open, closed, double drum and single drum series.

4. Countersunk head blind rivet: riveting of riveted parts with smooth and beautiful surface after riveting.

5. Double-drum blind rivet: During riveting, the mandrel pulls the end of the rivet body into a double-drum shape, and clamps the two structural parts to be riveted to reduce the pressure on the surface of the structural parts. Mainly used for riveting of various thin structures in vehicles, ships, construction, machinery, electronics and other industries.

6. Cap edge self-pulling rivet: Compared with ordinary self-pulling rivets, the diameter of the aluminum cap of this rivet is significantly larger. When riveting with the connector, the rivet has a larger contact area and a stronger support surface, which can enhance the torque strength and withstand higher radial tension. Uses: It is suitable for fastening soft and fragile surface materials and super large holes, increasing the diameter of the brim, and has special protection applications for soft materials.

7. Closed blind rivet: designed to cover the head of the mandrel after riveting, it is very suitable for many applications with waterproof requirements. It has high shear force, vibration resistance and high pressure resistance.

8. All-aluminum self-pulling rivet: The body of this rivet is also made of high-quality aluminum wire, which is beautiful and durable, and will never rust after riveting. Compared with ordinary self-pulling rivets, rivets have lower riveting strength and are suitable for soft material connections.

9. Open stainless steel rivet: This rivet is the best choice for high tensile strength and corrosion resistance.

10. Flat head and flat head rivets: mainly used for riveting metal sheets or non-metallic materials such as leather, canvas and wood.

11. Semi-hollow rivets: mainly used for riveting occasions with small loads.

12. Hollow rivet: light weight, weak head, used for riveting non-metallic materials, small load.
