What are the methods of galvanizing roofing nails?

Nov 17, 2022

Roofing nails are widely used in our daily life, and we can properly galvanize them during processing to prolong their service life and enhance their corrosion resistance. So, what kinds of galvanizing methods are there for roofing nails? Let's take a look today:

Galvanizing methods can be divided into two categories: electroplating and hot-dip galvanizing:

1. Galvanize the roofing nails by electroplating. If the positive and negative ions of the electrode move to galvanize, connect the positive and negative poles of the zinc solution to the positive and negative poles of the roofing nail, so that the anions can swim to the positive pole. So corrugated nails are made of steel so the steel and zinc can form a galvanic cell so that the cathode is protected and thus galvanized on the corrugated nails.

2. The hot-dip method is also operated with a zinc solution. In this way, iron and zinc fuse to form an alloy in a high temperature environment. This also adds a layer of protection to the roof nails.

Comparison of electroplating and hot-plating characteristics:

1). Zinc can cover corrugated nails well during electroplating, and the surface is smooth, and the zinc coverage on it is even. Moreover, the galvanizing is relatively pure, which can guarantee its good anti-corrosion performance. It works great.

2). Hot dipping is used to fuse iron ions and zinc ions to make them tightly combined. In fact, the surface of the roofing nails is not just zinc, but a mixture of steel and zinc.
